INDUSTRY EVENTS

 

Boston Print Buyers (BPB) will host a special social event on Wednesday, April 14th, at the Museum of Printing in North Andover, MA. Attendees will be treated to a tour of the Museum while mingling with other industry professionals and enjoying drinks and light refreshments. This special event runs from 5:30 – 8:00 pm on April 14th. The registration fee is $10. Everyone is invited to attend.

 

For industry professionals who haven’t seen the likes of strike-on typesetters, phototypesetters, hand-fed letterpresses, engraving presses, and roto-gravure equipment, the 25,000-square-foot Museum holds print manufacturing treasures that date back hundreds of years. The Museum of Printing is a nonprofit organization dating back to 1978. 10 February - ACOM Solutions, Inc. has enhanced the EZRetrieve module for its EZContentManager (EZCM) electronic document management system with data retrieval capability that is operational from within any on-screen application and in addition, it has enabled the module to run as a free-standing utility able to perform Microsoft SharePoint searches as well. EZRetrieve 2.0 provides a direct connection to data in EZContentManager or SharePoint from any defined point within an application. EZRetrieve runs in the background of the application being used, and can be accessed by means of a button created in the task bar. With the new integrated buttons, there are now two user options for accessing files and performing data searches: hot-keys and buttons, with user preference determining which one to use.

 

10 February - BÖWE BELL + HOWELL (BBH) and InfoSeal, a leading manufacturer of pressure seal forms, announced an expanded distribution agreement for BBH to become a reseller of InfoSeal pressure seal forms. BBH has been a distributor of pressure seal equipment for more than five years, and this agreement now provides BBH customers with single-source ease for ordering supplies. The announcement is one of several such agreements released recently by the company.

 

10 January - Komori America Corporation, a premier manufacturer of sheetfed and web offset printing presses, today announced that Shawmut Printing, a full-service commercial printer located in Danvers, Massachusetts, recently installed its fourth Komori press, a five color Lithrone S40 (LS540) with advanced interface (AI) software, to answer the company’s increased demand for high quality, more sophisticated applications. The LS540 coupled with AI software improves profitability through reduced waste, and significantly improves press productivity and print quality. In selecting the press, Shawmut Printing was particularly impressed that AI technology allows all press functions to be preset from the console, saving time and money. In addition, the AI software also has self-learning technology that progressively updates press settings over time to reduce waste. Shawmut’s long-term relationship and high satisfaction with the advanced technology and the ease-of-use of Komori’s Lithrone presses were additional factors in the decision to add a more advanced press.

 

9 February - Crawford Technologies Inc. announced that it has launched QR Express, a module for its Transpromo Express product that enables the application of QR Codes to bills, statements and other transactional customer communications. This new module will allow clients to set up automated processes to create and apply these codes in a matter of days. QR Codes (short for Quick Response) can store up to 4KB of data. When scanned with a smart phone, it directs consumers to specific web pages to present them with targeted offers for new products, services or service information. Companies employing this technology can expect to enhance revenues, profitability and customer retention, and see a rapid ROI on both reactive and proactive marketing campaigns.
